To provide a printing apparatus which has a gatling system ribbon unit excellent in maintainability.

Lids 11a and 11b of a frame 11 in the printing apparatus 10 are opened up and down, and a ribbon cage holder 252 is rotated by approximately 90° in the clockwise direction from a print position centering a ribbon cage holder oscillation shaft 252A, whereby the ribbon cage holder 252 is moved to a maintenance position. A thermal head 260 moves with an arm member 257 in conjunction with movement of the ribbon cage holder 252 to the maintenance position, and moves to a position where a heating element of the thermal head 260 can be touched from outside. Hence maintenance such as cleaning and replacement of the thermal head 260 can be easily carried out. A good print quality is maintained accordingly.
