Abstract:
Fine particles the surface of which has high compatibility with liquid crystals
and which have excellent dispersibility in liquid crystals. Each fine particle
(51) has, at least in a surface layer thereof, groups (W) having at least one of
a structure akin to a liquid crystal and a structure which is an intermediate for
a liquid crystal. The groups (W) present in the surface layer part of the fine particle
(51) are bonded to the surface layer part of the fine particle (51) by covalent
bonding through connecting groups (Z).
