Abstract:
An observation device (1) comprises a camera unit (5) which captures images of a plurality of cells (S) at a plurality of observation positions in the vicinity of the bottom surface (17a) of a culture container (17) in which the cells (S) are cultured, and an evaluation unit which counts the number of the cells (S) in the individual images captured by the camera unit (5), obtains the cell count or cell density distribution in the culture container (17) on the basis of the number of cells thus counted at each observation position and then determines the inclination of the bottom surface (17a) of the culture container (17) in accordance with the distribution thus obtained, wherein: the plurality of observation positions are arranged in one direction along the bottom surface (17a) of the culture container (17); and, when the cell count or cell density distribution in the culture container (17) changes in one direction in accordance with the arrangement order of the the plurality of observation positions, then the evaluation unit determines that the bottom surface (17a) of the culture container (17) inclines.
