Abstract:
PURPOSE:To stabilize an air-fuel ratio, by a method wherein, by introducing secondary air during low load running in that an accel pedal is stepped on from an idling posi tion, the generation of a catalyst smell is prevented, and by stopping introduction of the secondary air during idling, feedback of an air-fuel ratio is performed. CONSTITUTION:In an internal combustion engine, a catalyst converter 1a is disposed in an exhaust pipe 1. In this case, a means 2, controlling introduction of secondary air to the upper stream of the catalyst converter 1a, and a means 3, adapted to control an air-fuel ratio of air-fuel mixture introduced to the internal combustion engine, is provided. Further, means 4 and 5, performing closed loop control and opening loop control, respectively, of an air-fuel ratio controlled by the air-fuel ratio control means 3, are provided. Moreover, a means 6 is provided for discriminating whether an air-fuel ratio is a closed loop control condition or an opening loop control condition according to the running state of the internal combustion engine and switching the control conditions. And a control means 7 is provided for actuating the opening loop control means 5 in a non-idling state under a partial lead state and actuating the secondary air introducing means 2.
