Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL: A compound of formula I (A is 8-20C alkyl, CH(R1)R {wherein R is 7-20 alkyl; R1 is OH or OCOR2 [R2 is 1-14C alkyl, (substituted)amino, etc.], 2-(methoxy)ethoxymethoxy, a halogen, NHR3 (wherein R3 is H, 1-6C alkanoyl, COCF3 or 1-6C sulfonyl)}).
EXAMPLE: 4-[1-dodecanoyloxy-2-(2-methoxyethoxy)methoxymethyl]-2(H)-furanone.
USE: An anti-inflammatory agent.
PREPARATION: 5-hydroxy-2(5H)-furanone represented by the formula II is treated with a reducing agent such as hydrogenated boron sodium.
