Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set a proper read start position at all times by shifting a read start position to a proper position depending on the thickness of a book original and the number of turned-over pages based on a page end position detected at page turn-over.
SOLUTION: The operator inputs the thickness of a book original and the total number of pages by using a ten-key or the like on an operation panel. Then a paper sensor 12 provided on a scanning unit 3 confirms whether or not page turn-over is conducted correctly at start of page turn-over and detects a page end by sensing timing when the paper is extracted from the paper sensor 12. Then a difference between the sensed page end position and an actual read start position is set to a proper value based on the thickness of the book original 2 and the number of turned-over pages. A proper curve denoting a proper resist shift amount is selected based on, e.g. the thickness of the book original to decide a resist shift amount and the read position is decided accordingly.
