To provide a chill vent in which the sectional area of a gas vent path can be easily changed, the gas venting from a die cavity can be adjusted to an always optimum state, and occurrence of a defect, such as a blow hole, due to a gas venting defect can be prevented while the occurrence of a hot metal blow is prevented.
The chill vent provided with the gas vent path communicating with the cavity of the die is provided with a cross section adjusting means for changing the sectional area of the gas vent path, a sliding piece 5 projecting and retracting within, for example, the gas vent path, a coil spring energizing the sliding piece 5 in a projection direction, and an adjustment screw 7 adjusting the position of the sliding piece 5. The gas venting property of the chill vent is regulated by adjusting the amount of the projection of the sliding piece 5 into the gas vent path, thereby adjusting the sectional area for venting.
