PURPOSE: To obtain the subject reducing agent containing a specific tetracycline- based compound as an active ingredient, capable of reducing low density lipoproteins in blood by promoting the metabolism of the proteins in liver, and useful for the treatment of arteriosclerosis, etc.
CONSTITUTION: This cholesterol reducing agent comprises containing (A) a tetracycline-based compound of either one of a compound of the formula (R1 is H, a halogen or an amino; R2 is H, OH, an alkyl or an alkenyl; R3 is H, OH or an alkyl; 4 is H or OH; R5 is H, an alkyl or an amino), an isotetracycline or an anhydrotetracycline and preferably (B) a dextran sulfate as active ingredients. Furthermore, it is preferable to use any one of tetracycline, minocycline, chlortetracycline, doxycycline, oxytetracycline, methacycline, demchlocycline and tetracycline derivative A as the component A.
