The coating apparatus 10 includes: a coating liquid pan 24 storing the coating liquid therein; a coating means 22 applying the coating liquid on a recording medium; a supply roller 26 supplying the coating liquid to the coating means 22; and a cleaning member 28 disposed in the coating liquid pan 24 and coming into contact with the supply roller 26 to remove stain from the supply roller 26. The filter 30 is connected to the other end of the cleaning member 28. The cleaning member 26 and the filter 30 are in close-contact with the inside of the coating liquid pan 24 to divide the coating liquid pan into two sections. A coating liquid supply part for supplying the coating liquid is disposed downstream in a supply roller rotating direction of the coating liquid pan 24. A coating liquid discharge part for discharging the coating liquid is disposed upstream in a rotating direction of the supply roller 26. The image forming apparatus includes the coating apparatus 10.
