PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a cooling device which cools an object to be cooled by immersing the same in cooling water to form a just enough ice layer in a water tank for re-cooling the cooling water having an increased temperature thereof.SOLUTION: A cooling control section 40 has: a normal mode to form an ice layer in a water tank 1 by freezing a portion of cooling water; and a control mode to maintain a water temperature T of the cooling water at a temperature higher than the same in the normal mode and lower than a predetermined reference temperature T1. The cooling control section 40 switches the normal mode to the control mode after a lapse of predetermined switch time L1 since when the water temperature T in the normal mode is decreased to the reference temperature T1. Cooled object amount detection means 42: determines that the cooled object is immersed in the cooling water when the water temperature T exceeds the reference temperature T1; performs a detection process; and sets the switch time L1 depending on an amount of the cooled object. In particular, the cooled object amount detection means 42 sets shorter switch time L1 when detecting a small amount of the cooled object than the same when detecting a large amount of the cooled object.
