To positively make balance adjustment by filling water to a balancer to start up dehydrating operation even when an eccentric load caused by unevenly distributed laundry is shifted from the opposed position of the balancer.

The position slippage of an eccentric load from the opposed position of a balancer is computed as an eccentric slippage angle θ (S4), and the appropriate allowable value (x) is set according to θ (S6). When the eccentric quantity is the allowable value (x) or less ('Y' in S7), water is filled to a balancer to reduce the eccentric quantity of the whole drum (S10). The larger the eccentric slippage angle θ is, the less the eccentric quantity adjustable by the balancer is, but since the allowable value is made small, balancing water filling is executed only when adjustment by the balancer is positively possible.
