The electro-optical device is provided with: a substrate (10); a plurality of reflection type pixel electrodes (9a) arranged apart from each other with gap areas (D1, D2) on a display area (10a) on the substrate; and an interlayer insulating film (42) laminated on a layer side lower than these plurality of pixel electrodes. Further, the electro-optical device is provided with a gap insulating film (510) which is arranged at least in a part of the gap areas (D1, D2) on this interlayer insulating film (42) and is formed of an insulating film having a refractive index different from that of this interlayer insulating film.
