Abstract:

To provide an electron emission element, using a nano carbon material for actualizing easy electric field concentration, improved in electron emission performance and its uniformity and stability, and produced in simple and high-controllable processes, and also to provide a method of manufacturing the electron emission element and a surface light emitting element using the electron emission element.

The electron emission element of a field emission type for emitting electrons with a strong electric field, is equipped with a three-dimensional structure pattern constituted of a plurality of protruded portions formed on a substrate. The ratio of the height of each of the protruded portions to a clearance between the adjacent protruded portions is 1:2 or higher and 1:6 or lower.
