To develop a new friction modifier thereby obtaining a high static friction factor especially during automatic transmission and maintaining permanent positive inclination during oxidative and mechanical stress of a friction system.
A fluid composition of (a) a friction modifier derived from the reaction of a carboxylic acid or a reactive equivalent thereof with an aminoalcohol and containing at least two hydrocarbyl groups; and (b) a dispersant other than a species of (a), provides good friction properties to an automatic transmission. The composition is suitable for use in transmission fluids (including automatic transmission, continuously variable transmission, dual clutch transmission, and manual transmission fluids), as well as farm tractor fluids, and fluids such as engine lubricants.
