Abstract:

To provide a novel liquid crystalline gel made from a liquid crystalline compound or composition and a gelatinizer having a simple structure compared with a conventional one having a complicated chemical structure.

The liquid crystalline gel exhibiting an optical anisotropy is obtained by heating a precursor solution comprising a liquid crystalline compound, an organic solvent, and a gelatinizer compound having a 4-substituted-1- hydroxyphenyl skeleton of three rings, to prepare a uniform isotropic solution, followed by cooling the solution.
