An FED(field emission display device) 10 is equipped with an exhaust hole 36 provided through a back plate 18 along the direction of its thickness and a plurality of mutually insulated wires provided to electrically connect pluralities of cathode electrodes 28 and gate electrodes 30 to a plurality of back wires provided outside an airtight space 20, the cathode and gate electrodes 28, 30 being provided on one side 14 of the back plate 18 via the exhaust hole 36. Therefore, because the cathode electrodes 28 and the like, provided on one side of the back plate 18, are connected by wires to the back wires via the exhaust hole 36 provided in the back plate 18, the need to provide wires on the side end face of the FED 10 to connect the FED 10 is eliminated. Thus, an increase in the size of an outer edge resulting from providing connecting wires on the side end face is restrained in a desirable fashion.
