To provide an imaging apparatus and a control method of the imaging apparatus capable of reducing variation, in image quality of a monitor image, caused by luminance of a subject.
The imaging apparatus for imaging a subject via an optical system including an imaging lens and a focus lens includes: an imaging means, including a plurality of pixels, for accumulating electric charges in accordance with an optical image of the subject formed by the optical system; and a reading number of times control means for detecting the luminance of the subject from the electric charges read out under first read control or from electric charges read out under second read control and for controlling the number of times of reading out the electric charges under the second read control, with respect to the first read control, so that a display rate of the image of the subject displayed on a display means can be fixed based on the luminance of the relevant subject.
