Abstract:

To solve problems with phase difference AF control of an external ranging system which does not obtain enough accuracy for a long-distance subject and with a method to obtain a subject distance from a position and a direction of an imaging device as well as map information which produces a large relative error and takes a long time until focusing for a short-distance subject.

An imaging device can shorten the time required for focusing by imaging signal AF control and can perform high-speed focusing adjustment control as hybrid AF by having phase difference AF control and map reference AF control in addition to the imaging signal AF control. The imaging device also obtains a more accurate subject distance by performing the map reference AF control for a long-distance subject that the phase difference AF control of an external ranging system has difficulty to deal with. Additionally, the imaging device performs the map reference AF control in the phase difference AF control of the external ranging system when a subject is not in a short range.
