Abstract:
PURPOSE: To promote lowering of plasma cholesterol level by administering HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor while carrying out time control. CONSTITUTION: Therapeutically effective amount of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, preferably a compound of formula I or formula II [R<1> is a substitutable 1-10C alkyl or 3-8C cycloalkyl; R<2> is methyl, a substitutable 1-10C alkyl, a 1-5C alkoxycarbonyl or OH; R<3> is H or substitutable 1-5C alkyl or 2,3- dihydroxypropyl; (a) to (d) are each single bond or one of them is double bond or both of (a) and (c) or both of (b) and (d) are double bond], e.g. 7-[1,2,6,7,8,8 a,(R)-hexahydro-2(S), 6(R)-dimethyl-8(S)-(2,2-dimethylbutyryloxy) naphthalenyl-1(S)]-3(R),5(R)dihydroxyheptanoic acid is administered while carrying out time control. The medicine is preferably used in the form of a sustained release pharmaceutical preparation containing hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose in addition to the inhibitor.
