To provide improved methods for labeling nucleotides.
The method for labeling the nucleotides comprises: a step for reacting a reactive moiety of a linker with an electron-donating moiety of a spacer; a step for reacting the reactive moiety of the spacer with a label; and a step for reacting the other reactive moiety of the linker with the nucleotides. The linker is a platinum compound having a stabilizing bridge and two reactive moieties. The spacer comprises a chain having at least four atoms and at least one heteroatom in the chain, and the spacer further comprises the electron-donating moiety at one end of the chain and a reactive moiety at the other end of the chain. A major advantage is that all nucleotides can be labeled, whereas until now the attachment of a label was mostly restricted to one or more nucleotides.
