Abstract:
To provide a method in which a compound having a hydroxymethyl group is efficiently oxidized to obtain a corresponding carbonyl compound in high yields.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a method for producing a carbonyl compound in which: in the presence of a ternary catalyst containing gold, silver, and copper, a hydroxy compound having a hydroxymethyl group represented by the formula (1A) is oxidized, to produce a carbonyl compound represented by the formula (1B). (In formula (1A) and formula (1B), A is a hydrocarbon group optionally having a substituent and optionally having a hetero atom, R is H or OH).SELECTED DRAWING: None
