A coating liquid 14 is applied on a polyethylene terephthalate film 12 by a slide bead applying method. It is dropped from the forefront 21a of a lip and applied as a bead 44 on the web 12. The interval between the forefront 21a of the lip and the film 12 is adjusted to 0.10-0.40 mm and the back pressure of the bead 44 is adjusted to -100 to -700 Pa so as to ensure ≤7.2 mm-1 upper meniscus curvature of the upper curved surface 44a of the bead 44. The deformation of the upper layer is suppressed and the distribution of coating weight of a toning agent contained in the upper layer is made uniform. The objective heat developable photosensitive material having good surface properties is obtained and the occurrence of streaky unevenness in optical density is prevented.
