To provide a monitoring image pickup device (television door phone) which can be easily mounted on an iron door and a method of mounting the same.

A U-shaped metal fitting 22 is provided with bent pieces 22L and 22R which are opposed to each other, and an image pickup means 1 and a transmission device 10 are fixed on the pieces 22L and 22R of the U-shaped metal fitting 22 respectively for the formation of the monitoring image pickup device. The U-shaped metal fitting 22 of the monitoring image pickup device is inserted in a gap 26 between the top or side of a door 23 and a door frame 21 and pinched in a state of keeping a door 23 open, and the monitoring image pickup device is completely locked in a state of keeping the door 23 locked.
