Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide type glucose sensor capable of analyzing a specimen, for example, an extremely small amount of glucose in body fluids, with high sensitivity and with high precision.
SOLUTION: The optical waveguide type glucose sensor is equipped with a substrate 1, a first optical guide layer 2 formed on the surface of the substrate, a pair of gratings 3 respectively formed on the surfaces in the vicinity of both end parts of the first optical guide layer 2, a second optical guide layer 4, of which the refractive index is not lower than that of the first optical guide layer 2, formed on the first optical guide layer 2 which is positioned between a pair of the gratings 3, the functional layer 8, which contains enzyme and a color forming reagent, formed on the second optical guide layer 4 and a protective film 5, of which the refractive index is not higher than that of the first optical guide layer 2, further formed on the first optical guide layer 2 including the gratings 3 so as to expose a functional layer 8.
