After that, the original is placed in the reading position of the platen 3 (a loop reversing operation). At this time, a belt motor is temporarily stopped to change its rotational direction from a backward rotation to a forward rotation. When the scanning of the second surface of the original is completed, the loop reversing operation is executed to turn the original upside down again and place the original in the reading position of the platen 3, so that the first surface of the original is scanned.
