To obtain a polyester fabric with excellent wool- or cashmere-toned feel, and to provide a method for producing the polyester fabric.

This polyester fabric is composed of polyester fiber with random unevenness in the longitudinal direction and uneven cross-section area in the cross section; wherein, more precisely, the polyester fiber has ≥10/cm portions each with an unevenness pitch of ≤1 mm, and as for the cross section, the polyester fibers having a cross-section area ≤60% of the maximum cross-section area account for ≤50% of the total polyester fibers constituting polyester filament yarns, and polyester fibers each with a cut edge ≥30° in edge angle are included. This polyester fabric is obtained by the following procedure: at least one side of a fabric comprising polyester fibers is coated with a treatment solution having a viscosity of 1-20 p and containing a component decomposing or dissolving the polyester fibers followed by heat treatment of the resultant fabric to partially reduce the cross-section area of the polyester fibers or partially break them.
