Abstract:
To provide a polymer sizing agent having excellent sizing effect without needing aluminum sulfate as compared to conventional rosin-based sizing agents, alkenyl succinic anhydride-based sizing agents, and ketene dimer-based sizing agents which have been used in paper making processes, and a manufacturing method thereof.SOLUTION: Disclosed is a polymer sizing agent for paper making, containing a polymer obtained by polymerizing a monomer blend including a cationic unsaturated monomer and a hydrophobic unsaturated monomer as the main components, wherein the glass-transition temperature of polymer portions derived from the hydrophobic unsaturated monomer is -80°C or over 20°C or under and the hydrophobic unsaturated monomer comprises the following a) or the following b), or a blend of the following a) and the following b): a) styrene analogs; and b) unsaturated monomers bearing alkyl groups having a carbon number of 4 or over.SELECTED DRAWING: None
