Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound by reducing nitro group of 5'-chloro-3'- nitro-2'-hydroxyacetophenone, returning the pH of the reaction mixture to neutral level or thereabout after the completion of the reduction reaction and continuing the catalytic reduction reaction to complete the elimination of Cl.
CONSTITUTION: 5'-Chloro-3'-nitro-2'-hydroxyacetophenone of formula I is subjected to catalytic reduction reaction under neutral or acidic condition to proceed the reduction of the nitro group. When the reduction of the nitro group is almost completed, the pH of the reaction liquid is returned to neutral level or thereabout and the catalytic reduction is continued to complete the elimination of chlorine group and obtain 3'-amino-2'-hydroxyacetophenone of formula II. The compound of formula II is useful as an intermediate for the production of 8-[4-(4-phenylbutoxy)benzoyl]amino-2-(5--tetrazolyl)-4-oxo-4H-1-benzopyran useful as an agent for treating various allergic diseases caused by leukotriene.
