Abstract:

PURPOSE: To simply synthesize the subject compound useful a yellow coupler for silver halide color photography photosensitive materials or as its synthetic intermediate by reacting an urethane compound with an acetyl compound in the presence of a base.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula: R1OCONHR (R1 is aryl; R2 is alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl) is reacted with a compound of formula: R3COCH2Y (R3 is alkyl, cycloalkyl, ether, aryl, etc.; Y is H, electron-attracting group) in the presence of a base (e.g. sodium hydride) in a solvent (e.g. THF) at -20 to 130°C to obtain the compound of the formula. The urethane compound, the acetyl compound and the base are used in amounts of 1 mole, 0.3-5 moles and 0.9-5 moles, respectively. The reaction can be performed under mild conditions without using a highly toxic compound such as phosgene.
