To provide a method for producing an alcohol for an ester plasticizer by using a hydrocarbon mixture.
This method for producing an alcohol mixture comprises (a) reacting a hydrocarbon mixture containing cyclopentene and at least one kind of an acyclic monoolefin by a metathesis reaction, (b) isolating an olefin fraction substantially containing 6-12 carbon atoms from the metathesis reaction mixture, (c) at least partially hydrogenating two or more unsaturated compounds contained in the olefin fraction selectively into a monoolefin, if necessary and (d) hydroformylating the monoolefin fraction selectively hydrogenated, if necessary, by a catalytic action by a reaction using carbon monoxide and hydrogen and hydrogenating the hydroformylated substance. The method is useful for producing a plasticizer or a plasticizer mixture for a molding material.
