PURPOSE: To obtain conjugated dienes useful as a simple substance for obtaining an elastomer and an intermediate for drugs or agricultural chemicals by reacting propadiene or 1,2-butadiene with formate in the presence of a Pd salt or a phosphorus compd.
CONSTITUTION: A compd. represented by formula I (R1 is H or CH3) is reacted with formate (e.g.; an alkali metal salt, a salt of thertiary org. amine) in the presence of a catalytic system consisting of a Pd salt (e.g.; Pd-acetate) and a phosphorus compd. represented by formula II (n is 0-3 and X is alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl, alkaryl or cycloalkyl) (e.g.; triisopropylphosphine) to obtain a compd. represented by formula III (one of R2 and R3 is H and the other is R1). A molar ratio of the phosphorus compd. represented by the formula II and the Pd salt is 1:1-20:1 (pref., 1.5:1-4:1) and the reaction is performed in the presence of a solvent such as DMF at 40-70°C under a pressure of 2-25 bar.
