Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce a high m.p. metal-containing Al base alloy plate-like cast ingot containing specific content or more of the high m.p. metals (one or more kinds among metals of III b, IV b, Vb, VII b, VIII b, groups in the periodic table) without developing gravity segregation of intermetallic compound.

CONSTITUTION: A narrow width mold side wall 5 of a mold 1 having longitudinal plate-like casting space part 6 is formed in a gate structure and a molten metal receiving chamber 8 is arranged in adjacent to the mold side wall 5 of the gate structure. The high m.p. metal-containing Al base alloy molten metal is poured into this molten metal receiving chamber 8. The molten metal is poured into the casting space part 6 horizontally to be stored from this bottom part successivelly through the mold side wall 5 of the gate structure, and then, at the same time of pouring the molten metal into the mold, the solidification of the molten metal in the mold is progressed in the plate thickness direction to repeatedly form the solidified layer. Then, the solidified layer is piled up in succession from the bottom part to the upper part to form the plate-like cast ingot.
