PURPOSE: To obtain a highly stereoregular olefin polymer stably for a period with a remarkably high polymerization activity without any problems in operation by polymerizing an olefin in the presence of a catalyst comprising a specific catalyst component, an organoaluminum compound and an electron donor.
CONSTITUTION: An olefin (preferably a ≥3C olefin containing Si) is (co) polymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising (A) a solid catalyst component, (B) on organoaluminum compound and, as necessary, (C) an electron donor to afford the objective polymer. Furthermore, the component (A) is obtained by spraying (i) a mixture of an Mg compound with an alcohol in a melted state, providing (ii) a solid component without evaporating the alcohol in the component (A), partially removing the alcohol from the component (ii), affording (iii) a solid component and then bringing a Ti compound containing a halogen and an electron donor into contact with the component (iii) in an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent having 90-180°C boiling point at 110-135°C. The compositional formula of the components (i) and (ii) is represented by formula I and that of the component (iii) is represented by formula II.
