To provide a method to introduce a dye for a filter into a nonwater medium so that the dye can be used when a coating layer is formed by using an org. solvent for a photographic element.
A coating compsn. containing an org. solvent, a film forming binder which is insoluble with an alkali soln. but soluble with an org solvent, and a nonwater dispersion of solid particles of a filter dye which is substantially insoluble with an org. solvent but is easily dissolved or decolorized in an alkali soln. of pH>8 for photographic treatment is applied on a transparent base body to form a first layer. Then a water-based coating compsn. containing a silver halide emulsion is applied to form a second layer on the opposite surface of the base body to the layer containing the filter dye.
