Abstract:

To obtain a radioactively labeled diagnostic agent which reflects the metabolism of carbohydrates such as glucose or galactose in the cells in mammalians including human and is useful in diagnosis of organs such as brain, tumor and heart or their tissues.

This diagnostic agent contains a glucose or galactose derivative of the formula (R1 is α-hydroxyl or β-hydroxyl group). In the case that R1 is β-hydroxyl group, this derivative is prepared via 1,2,3,4-tetra-O-acetyl-6- deoxy-6-iodo-β-D-glucopyranose as an intermediate, while in the case of R1=α- hydroxyl, 6-deoxy-6-iodo-1,2:3,4 di-O-isopropylidene-α-D-galactopyranose is utilized as a synthetic intermediate. The radioactive iodine is preferably selected from 123I, 125I and 131I.
