Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an information processor which applies the principle of scanning tunneling microscope or interatomic force microscope and can perform tracking without being affected by the surface ruggedness of recording media.

CONSTITUTION: A probe electrode 2 which is supported by a cantilever 3 and carries a magnetic material is arranged opposedly to a recording medium 1 having a magnetic layer 103 on which a magnetized patter is formed as tracks. Tracking of the medium 1 is performed by controlling the interatomic repulsive forces acting between the medium 1 and electrode 2 in a direction Z and detecting the displacement of the cantilever 3 caused by the magnetic force acting between the medium 1 and electrode 2.
