To provide a reversible multi-color thermosensitive recording medium which shows a clear-cut contrast without color fog and also color fading even in case recording and erasure of image data are repeatedly performed, and a recording method using this medium.
In this reversible multi-color recording medium, a first to an "n"th recording layer containing reversible thermosensitive color developing compositions of mutually different developed hues, are sequentially formed, in the planar direction of a support substrate, from the substrate side, in the way that the layers are separately independent of each other. In addition, the first to the "n"th recording layers contain a photothermal conversion composition which generates heat upon absorption of near infrared rays of respectively different wavelength regions. Besides, the relationship: 1,500 nm>λmax1>λmax2>...>λmaxn>750 nm is established when the absorption peak wavelengths in the near infrared regions of the first to the "n"th recording layer are given as λmax1-λ maxn.
