PURPOSE: To improve heat cracking resistant characteristic, etc., and durability of a roll for continuous casting.
CONSTITUTION: The roll is laminated in concentric state with a core of forged material and a surface layer of 13 Cr series cast steel hollow cylindrical body and combined by diffusion-joining copper or copper alloy thin layer as the joining layer in the interface of the laminated layers. This roll is erected in straight standing posture with 13 Cr series cast steel-made hollow cylindrical cast product (surface layer cylindrical body) 13 as the surface layer to be fitted to outside of the core member 11 in concentric state and the joined layer forming material 12 (the copper or the copper alloy powder or plate) is charged into the annular space demarcated by the core member 11 and the surface layer cylindrical body 13, and after degassing and sealing, the joined layer forming material 12 is heated and melted. The diffusion-joining is brought on the solid-liquid interface between the core material 11 and the surface layer cylindrical body 13 with the molten material and successively, the molten material is cooled and solidified to produce the roll.
