Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent mis-operation of an alarm and automatic braking, etc., while maintaining safety by properly anticipating that an obstacle.
CONSTITUTION: While information on obstacles is not output from a radar 3, an estimation means 22 continuously estimates the current value of the distance between at least the vehicle on which it is mounted and an obstacle for a certain period of time according to information previously stored in a storage portion 21, and a contact possibility judgment means 12 judges the possibility of the vehicle making contact with the obstacle on the basis of the information from the estimation means 22. An estimation time varying means 23 is provided for varying the time of estimation by the estimation means 22 in case the obstacle information is not output from the radar 3; for example, the longer the distance to the obstacle immediately before the obstacle information is stopped, the longer the estimation time.
