PURPOSE: To form the cut end of a sliver in the form of a spearhead in the case of pulling a sliver in lateral direction and cutting the sliver by placing a hindering member to bend a part of the sliver between a fixed clamping member and a mobile clamping member.

CONSTITUTION: A hindering member 40 to bend a part of a sliver S2 is placed between fixed clamping members 41, 42 and a mobile clamping member. When the mobile clamping member is moved in the left, the sliver is cut at the part bent with the hindering member 40 to form a cut end having a spearhead form. The cut ends of two slivers cut by this process can be integrated with each other without thickening the integrated part.
