PURPOSE: To obtain a liq. crystal mixture which has a low m.p. and a wide Sc phase range and is suitable esp. for an FCL mixture by compounding three specific ingredients and by using a phenylpyrimidine deriv. as the main ingredient.
CONSTITUTION: This compsn. contains at least one compd. (A) selected from among compds. of formulas I and II, at least one compds. (B) selected from among compds. of formula III, and at least one compd. (C) selected from among compds. of formula IV. In formulas I and II, R1 and R2 are each 1-18C linear or 3-18C branched alkyl; and a group of formula V is a group of formula VI or VII. In formulas III and IV, R1 and R2 are each 1-22C linear or 3-22C branched alkyl; A1 to A4 are each pyridine-2,5-diyl, etc.; M1 to M3 are each -COO-, -OCO-, etc.; X1 to X8 are each CH or N provided that the number of N atoms in the 6-membered ring is 0, 1, or 2; and a to f are each 0 or 1 provided that a+b+c is 0, 1, 2, or 3.
