Title:
SOLVENT COMPOSITION FOR DISSOLVING CELLULOSE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3953545
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dissolve a cellulose with high degree of polymerization, which was hitherto difficult to dissolve, in high concentration and stably by using a solvent composition comprising a LiOH/NaOH/ZnO/water system with a specified constitution.
SOLUTION: This composition comprises a LiOH/NaOH/ZnO/water system and is obtained by dissolving zinc oxide in an amount of at least 1wt.% and within saturation concentration in a solution consisting of 4-6wt.% NaOH, 4-2wt.% LiOH and 92wt.% water. Cellulose to be dissolved needs not be particularly treated to render alkali-soluble. Various natural and regenerated celluloses regardless of crystal forms can be used. Celluloses that can be used comprise those with a degree of polymerization of usually 100 to 3,000 depending on the concentration of cellulose to be dissolved.
