A silver halide photographic sensitive material having at least one photosensitive silver halide photographic emulsion layer on a supporting body is treated in an automatic developing machine equipped with a developing tank, fixing tank and stabilizing tank. In such a method, the automatic developing machine used is equipped with 2 to 8 stabilizing tanks and a silver recovering device. The photosensitive material is treated with a fixing liquid containing no compd. of aluminum in the fixing tanks.
