Abstract:
This cutting insert for a rotational cutting tool has a top surface, a bottom surface, and outer peripheral surfaces. The ridges between the top surface and the outer peripheral surfaces constitute a cutting edge. The cutting edge has a first line segment, a second line segment, a third line segment, a fourth line segment, a first round section, a second round section, a third round section, and a fourth round section. The straight line along the first line segment and the straight line along the third line segment form an acute angle. The straight line along the second line segment and the straight line along the fourth line segment form an acute angle. The straight line along the second line segment and the straight line along the third line segment form an obtuse angle. The straight line along the first line segment and the straight line along the fourth line segment form an obtuse angle. The radius of curvature of the third round section and the radius of curvature of the fourth round section are both greater than either of the radius of curvature of the first round section and the radius of curvature of the second round section. In a direction orthogonal to the bottom surface, the distance between the top surface and the bottom surface is equal to or less than the distance between the cutting edge and the bottom surface.
