Abstract:
A polyol monomer of the formula (I): R<1> is aliphatic or aromatic, R<2> is aliphatic, aromatic, ester, ether, or acrylic, and R<1> contains a hydroxyl group, R<2> contains -O-CH2-CH(OH)-, or both. R<1> is not a C4 or larger linear, unsubstituted aliphatic when R<2> is a residue of a bisphenol. The polyol monomer may be made by reacting an epoxy and an alcohol. Either the epoxy contains more than one epoxide groups, the alcohol is a polyol, or both. A thermoset made by reacting the polyol monomer with a polyisocyanate.
