Abstract:
Provided is an elastic wave device with which intermodulation distortion can be suppressed. The elastic wave device 1 comprises a piezoelectric layer having a crystal axis, and an IDT electrode 3 provided on the piezoelectric layer. If a first direction x is the elastic wave propagation direction and a second direction y is a direction orthogonal to the first direction x, the crystal axis of the piezoelectric layer is inclined in the second direction y relative to the thickness direction. The IDT electrode 3 includes: mutually facing first and second bus bars 4, 5; and a plurality of first and second electrode fingers 6, 7 having one end connected to any one of the first and second bus bars 4, 5. Among the plurality of first and second electrode fingers 6, 7, a plurality of first electrode fingers 6 connected to the first bus bar 4 and a plurality of second electrode fingers 7 connected to the second bus bar 5 are inserted between one another. A region where the adjacent electrode fingers overlap one another in the first direction x is an intersecting region B. The intersecting region B includes a central region D that is positioned toward the center in the second direction y, and first and second edge regions Ea, Eb that are positioned on opposite sides of the central region D in the second direction y. If the dimension of the electrode fingers in the first direction x is defined as a width, the plurality of first and second electrode fingers 6, 7 each include wide portions 6a, 6b, 7a, 7b positioned in the first and second edge regions Ea, Eb. The IDT electrode 3 additionally includes first and second gap regions Ga, Gb positioned between the intersecting region B and the first and second bus bars 4, 5. The first and second bus bars 4, 5 are each provided with plurality of opening portions 4d, 5d arranged along the first direction x. The first and second bus bars 4, 5 each include an outside bus bar portion 4c, 5c and an inside bus bar portion 4a, 5a that are positioned on opposite sides of the opening portions 4d, 5d in the second direction y, and a plurality of connecting portions 4b, 5b that connect the outside bus bar portion 4c, 5c and the inside bus bar portion 4a, 5a. The inside bus bar portions 4a, 5a are positioned further to the intersecting region B side in comparison to the outside bus bar portions 4c, 5c. If a region consisting of the region in which the first bus bar 4 is provided, the first gap region Ga, and the first edge region Ea constitutes the configuration of a first region Aa, and a region consisting of the region in which the second bus bar 5 is provided, the second gap region Gb, and the second edge region Eb constitutes the configuration of a second region Ab, the configuration of the first region Aa and the configuration of the second region Ab are asymmetrical.
