Abstract:
This liquid crystal aligning agent contains: a polymer α obtained from a compound having a polymerizable group having a polymerizable unsaturated hydrocarbon group; at least one type of polymer β selected from among a polyimide, a poly(amic acid), a poly(amic acid) ester, a polyamide and a polyurea; and a compound represented by formula (S1) as a solvent. (In formula (S1), Q1 and Q2 independently denote an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms, Q3 denotes a straight chain, branched or cyclic alkyl group having 1-8 carbon atoms, an alkoxyalkyl group having 2-8 carbon atoms, an alkylcarbonylalkyl group having 4-8 carbon atoms, or a hydrogen atom, and the total number of carbon atoms in Q1, Q2 and Q3 is 4 or more.)
