Title:
MAGNETIC IN-LINE FILTER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2014/098040
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Provided is a magnetic in-line filter for removing foreign matter from coolant in a machine tool, which affords a strong magnetic field and high filtration capability through a simple structure, without the use of consumables such as filters of nonwoven fabric or the like. The filtration location is one at which an inside peripheral surface-side magnet (4) and an outside peripheral surface-side magnet (5) are face-to-face across a space (31) when the piston rod (62) of a fluid cylinder (62) is pulled to the uppermost part. In this state, the solenoid of a directional control valve (231) is operated, blocking a discharge port (23). Coolant is introduced into the space (31) from an introduction port (21) in proximity to the bottom end of an external pipe (2), and the coolant is supplied to the machining unit from a supply port (22) in proximity to the top end. Because the magnetic field is strong in a radial direction, swarf in the coolant is attracted onto the wall surfaces at both sides of the space (31), filtering the coolant. As the coolant continues to be supplied, the attracted swarf accumulates on the wall surface and bridges. As a result, the coolant passes through the gap in the bridged coolant, thereby making precision filtration possible.
