Title:
MODULATION OF AKT-DEPENDENT RESPONSE TO PREVENT RESTENOSIS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2003032809
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
Restenosis of vessels after angioplasty, and narrowing of implanted blood vessels, such as arteries, veins, vascular grafts, and conduits, following implantation, is prevented or alleviated by inhibiting or modifying Akt activity in the cells of the vessel. The inhibition of Akt activity is achieved by administering to the blood vessel wall an effective amount of an agent capable of inhibiting Akt activity. The Akt inhibitor may be coated on a stent that is positioned within the blood vessel.
