Disclosed is a process for producing a coated paper for printing purposes which has good printing quality by spray coating. Specifically disclosed is a process for producing a coated paper for printing purposes which comprises a base paper and at least one coating layer formed on at least one surface of the base paper. The process comprises a step of preparing a spray coating solution that comprises a pigment and an adhesive agent comprising a starch component and has the characteristic properties (a) and (b) mentioned below and a step of coating the base paper with the coating solution by spraying to form the outermost coating layer, thereby producing the coated paper: (a) the starch component is contained in an amount of 30 to 100 wt% relative to the total amount of the adhesive agent; and (b) the type B viscosity as measured at 30˚C and 100 rpm is 300 mPa·s or less.
